Princesse Décadente is proud to be part of the Noissue Eco Packaging Alliance that is a great way to contribute to global reforestation through customized eco-friendly packaging! For every order that Princesse Décadente makes, the organization will plant trees in areas of need. Together, we all strive to be leaders in design, innovation, and sustainability: our packaging ink is soy-based and our tissue is completely acid-free and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, providing clients with premium wrapping that does not harm the environment.
Soy ink is made from soybeans. As opposed to the traditional petroleum-based solution, it is more ecological, might provide more accurate colors, and makes it easier to recycle paper. It is renewable as relies on a compound that can be grown and replenished indefinitely — soy oil. One of the distinct advantages is that the agricultural costs are low: soybeans require relatively small amounts of irrigation and fertilizers, minimizing both costs for farmers and the load on the environment. It is biodegradable: it can degrade more than four times faster than petroleum-based inks. Less soy ink is required for the same amount of print outs: this simply means that less ink needs to be manufactured, saving energy and having less trash to deal with. Paper recycling always involves washing out ink so that the paper will be clean and bright for the next use. Soy ink is much easier to remove than the equivalent petroleum-based products. Not only does this mean that the resulting recycled paper is of higher quality, but it even helps lower the costs of the entire recycling process.
The Forest Stewardship Council is an association that works to promote the practice of sustainable forestry worldwide. FSC ensures customers have the option to choose forest products like paper and wood that have been sourced in an environmentally-friendly, socially responsible, and economically viable manner. Since the official birth of FSC in 1994, a lot has been accomplished: currently, over 190 million hectares of forest are FSC certified, in over 80 countries worldwide.
Like regular paper, acid-free paper is made from cellulose fibers, but the acid pulp of the fibers is removed during processing. Acid-free paper is also free from sulfur and lignin, an organic tissue in plant fibers that can turn paper yellow if not removed. It is designed to last for centuries: due to its construction, it will not yellow with age and won’t get brittle in the same way that paper with a higher degree of acidity can over time. It can be used to secure and store collectibles, and as a buffer between clothing or even family heirlooms such as blankets and wedding gowns, so you could reuse Princesse Décadente’s tissue paper! One of the chief benefits of acid-free tissue paper is that it will not transfer color from the paper to the object. Additionally, the lack of acid in acid-free tissue paper keeps it supple and keeps it from crumbling, maximizing its effectiveness in storing treasured items.
Environmentally responsible manufacturing and consumption requires that we all become aware of the entire life cycle of products. When consumer goods are designed and made with ecologically friendly disposal in mind, the total biological load becomes much smaller. Being environmentally conscious is one of our suppliers’ and of course our core values, and we are happy to be contributing to global reforestation one tree at a time.
Princesse Décadente believes in socially-responsible packaging that can be given a second life once our products reach their new homes. We are proud to say that our packaging is sustainable, too. We post our designs enrolled in personalized, eco-friendly tissue paper and boxes. We recycle small soft pieces of silk and linen that cannot be used to make more scarves, old cotton napkins from an Italian restaurant that otherwise would be thrown away, and ropes that we need during the natural dying process of fabrics. All of these pieces are cut and stitched together by hand, manually dyed with an eco-printing technique, et voilà, they are ready to be stamped with the Princesse Décadente logo and used to deliver beautiful designs. We also ship some of our jewels in tasteful wooden boxes from Jaipur; natural materials that have been painstakingly hand-carved by best-in-class fair trade artisans. Princesse Décadente goes to great lengths to preserve natural resources in everything we do, inside our company and in all the products we design and produce. We’re driven to enable, develop, and support fair trade artisans and authentic producers of sustainable and natural materials, especially in economically isolated regions around the world.
We are authentic. We are Princesse Décadente.
